Eligible households will get discounts on their energy bills.
Five projects in California will expand renewable energy in the region and cut energy bills for residents located in the East Bay and San Joaquin Valley.
They were all announced this week across the state, with the initiatives led by Ava Community Energy (AVA) and Prologis. Each project will help deliver 100% renewable energy to eligible households.
The first completed rooftop development is at a Prologis logistics facility on the rooftop in Oakland. The project is the first of five rooftop solar installations in the partnership, which also includes sites in Hayward, San Leandro and Tracy. The Hayward and San Leandro systems are expected to come online this year.
The projects are being developed under California's Disadvantaged Communities Green Tariff (DAC GT) program, which is designed to expand access to renewable energy for income-eligible customers in disadvantaged communities.
"Prologis is turning logistics real estate into energy infrastructure," Alta Yen, head of energy in the US at Prologis, told GlobeSt.com.
"With our 1.3 billion-square-foot portfolio in strategic locations, in-house energy expertise and long-standing utility and community relationships, we can generate local power, help strengthen the grid and deliver renewable energy savings in the communities where we do business."
About 3,000 Ava customers will be served by solar electricity generated through this partnership, totaling approximately 7.28 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity.
Additionally, through this Solar Discount Program and other programs, Ava is promoting clean-energy electric-vehicle charging stations, e-bikes, solar, home battery storage and induction cooking.
